![]() ![]() but why say that? We really can choose to stay between the lines. Sure, nobody’s perfect in this life, and we will all mess up sometimes…. Some people are fatalistic, and say, “well, you’re going to sin”. But the good news is, now we don’t have to do that, we can do right! Now We Have A Choice We are still capable of doing wrong, of going outside the lines. This is a spiritual rebirth, not a physical one. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” ( John 3:3). Since we are born that way, we need to be born again, spiritually through faith in Jesus Christ. “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned” We are born with a sin nature passed through the generations from Adam and Eve, our first ancestors. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross the sea for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?’ But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it” ( Deuteronomy 30:11-14). ““For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach. I appreciate the way Moses recorded it in the Old Testament. Keep it between the lines and enjoy the scenery. ![]() Jesus makes it very personal when He says, “He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose myself to Him” ( John 14:21). Keep it between the lines, His commandments are the lines. “Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you” ( Matthew 28:20). What we are all about is to learn His commandments and keep them. HOW ABOUT THIS? Why not stay on the road, keep it between the lines? There is a lesson here for the follower of Jesus Christ. Not very comforting is it? Stay on the Road Doctors are also pretty good at pain management. Not to mention that, these days, rehab hospitals and physical therapy are the best they have ever been. And you know that hospital has a helicopter and paramedics that are trained to treat the injuries. Patrolmen are out to look out for you, most of the time. Suppose you do roll it down the hill, you have seat belts and air bags, right? And the State of Colorado has put up a rural trauma center that is only 50 miles from you. The speed limits are there and clearly marked, and of course all your fellow travelers will keep them. Sure, you might smack into them and then wait all day for a tow truck, but they are there to protect you. ![]() Hey, the worst spots have guard rails to keep you on the road. Let’s go tongue-in-cheek for the timid facing a mountain road. They have the same lines painted, but often include guard rails at the most treacherous spots. It’s a scenic thing, but if you are a bit scared of heights it can be rough, because the mountain is on one side, and the other side is a thousand foot drop off. For people to travel in the mountains, roads were built around the mountains not over the top, it was the safest way to build them and drive on them. Road markers are interesting in the mountains. If the runner hits that, they have scored, because you can’t miss it waving back and forth. One thing that solved a lot of controversy was putting a short foam pylon on the touchdown line. Athletes are getting very good at watching for that. Then it is called back because his graceful size twelve foot went ¾ of an inch across the line. We watch a wide receiver catch a pass on the sidelines and break away down the line to score a touchdown. Technology has changed the way we watch sports forever. The roads are also marked with speed limits, and signs to indicate sharp turns and other things to keep us safe. For our safety, we should keep it between the lines. Sometimes there are a series of divots that will vibrate if you are drifting across the road, or across the center lane. Unless it is really far out there, the highway department has painted white lines with reflective paint to mark the side of the road, and a center line to mark the two lanes. ![]() There are no streetlights, only the light from an occasional farmhouse. Anyone who has driven down a country road at night will notice how dark it is out there. ![]()
